PRETORIA - To enhance tax systems across Africa, ATAF has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the International Centre for Tax and Development (ICTD). This partnership signifies a crucial moment for ATAF's efforts to improve tax administration capabilities and collaborate on key taxation issues.


The MOU signed on 5th of March underscores ATAF and ICTD's commitment to addressing taxation challenges, particularly in the informal sector and among High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs). Both organizations aim to develop effective taxation strategies in these areas, recognizing their importance to revenue generation and economic stability. An inception meeting on 4th April, between ATAF's Applied Research and Statistics unit and ICTD marked the beginning of collaborative efforts under the MOU. This meeting outlined the roadmap for implementation and set the stage for research initiatives.

ATAF's Applied Research and Statistics unit has been conducting research on taxation within the informal sector and HNWIs. Meetings with representatives from Algeria, Eswatini, Zambia and Zimbabwe have provided insight into intricacies of taxation in these sectors, informing future strategies and policy frameworks.
