On the margins of the AfDB Annual Meetings, the ATAF delegation led by Deputy Executive Secretary Ms Mary Baine held discussions with AfDB Vice President and Chief Economist Kevin Urama, Director of Governance and Economic Reforms Dr Coulibaly Abdoulaye, and other senior Bank staff.

During the meeting, both organisations reflected on their long-standing partnership and noted the milestones achieved to date. They agreed on the importance of promoting Africa’s financial sustainability through local leadership and expertise.

ATAF expressed gratitude for the technical support from the AfDB and other development partners for sector-specific assistance requests. The delegation also highlighted an increasing demand for technical assistance, driven by reductions in official development aid, rising debt levels, and a growing focus on domestic resource mobilisation through taxation.

The AfDB team acknowledged ATAF’s technical and professional contributions to member countries and the region, noting a positive return on investment. While reaffirming its commitment to supporting ATAF’s efforts to boost domestic resource mobilisation, the Bank underscored the importance of ATAF strengthening its financial sustainability.
