ATAF INTRODUCES NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL MEMBERS

South Africa has been elected as the ATAF Chair, while Namibia will serve as Vice Chair. The Council also comprises Heads of Tax Administrations from Rwanda, Morocco, Uganda, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Botswana.

Kigali, Rwanda – 5 December 2024 – The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) has elected its new Council, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its mission to strengthen tax governance and drive sustainable economic development across Africa.

South Africa has been elected as the ATAF Chair, while Namibia will serve as Vice Chair. The Council also comprises Heads of Tax Administrations from Rwanda, Morocco, Uganda, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Botswana.

In his inaugural remarks, the Commissioner for South Africa Revenue Services (SARS) and newly elected Chair, Mr Edward Kieswetter, pledged the council's dedication to driving progress through collaboration and innovation. "We are committed to fostering transparency and delivering the strategic leadership necessary to achieve sustainable development goals for the continent. Together, we will ensure that African tax administrations are equipped to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow."

Outgoing Chair Dr. Philippe Tchodie, Commissioner General for the Office Togolais des Recettes (OTR) expressed gratitude to ATAF members for their unwavering support during his tenure and wished the new council well, saying, "It has been an honour to serve this organisation. I am confident that the new council will build on our collective achievements to further ATAF's mission and strengthen tax systems across Africa."

The newly elected council will prioritise reinforcing ATAF's role in enhancing regional collaboration and equipping African nations to mobilise resources effectively to support economic growth and critical public services.
