The African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) is proud to announce that the African Multidisciplinary Tax Journal (AMTJ) has been officially accredited by Scopus, one of the world’s leading abstract and citation databases for peer-reviewed literature.
This accreditation reflects the journal’s adherence to international academic publishing standards and its growing influence in global tax scholarship. Scopus accreditation enhances the visibility, credibility, and impact of the AMTJ. The journal is now fully searchable and accessible to a global network of over 5,000 research institutions, making it an attractive platform for high-quality research, policy analysis, and academic advancement. It is also expected to improve citation metrics and strengthen the journal’s role in shaping tax policy across Africa and beyond.
Since its inception, the AMTJ has served as a platform for African tax administrators, academics, and policymakers to share original research and practical insights. The journal has featured work that has contributed to tax reforms, policy consultations, and promoted evidence-based decision-making across African tax systems and addressed critical and topical challenges such digital taxation, taxation of natural resources, environmental taxation and effective VAT design. Notably, several AMTJ papers have directly influenced tax policy in ATAF member states, with recommendations adopted by
revenue authorities. Furthermore, contributors have advanced in their academic and professional careers, including earning doctoral degrees and receiving key appointments in tax governance.
“The accreditation of the AMTJ in Scopus is not just a recognition of academic rigour, it is a validation of Africa’s intellectual contribution to global tax policy discourse. This achievement affirms our commitment to fostering cutting-edge, policy-relevant research that speaks to the continent’s unique challenges and aspirations. We are proud to offer a platform where African voices in tax scholarship are heard, respected, and cited globally” - Prof. Annet Wanyana Oguttu – Chairperson of the African Tax Research Network (ATRN) & Director – African Tax Institute (ATI), University of Pretoria.
Building on this important milestone, ATAF will host the official virtual launch of Volume 5 of the AMTJ on 3 July 2025. The event will showcase the journal’s growing academic and policy impact, highlight future directions, and provide a platform for scholarly engagement and recognition. All stakeholders, researchers, academics, and policy experts are invited to attend this landmark occasion and contribute to advancing African tax scholarship.
In line with its mission to promote high-quality research and inclusive policy dialogue, the AMTJ continues to welcome submissions of tax-related research papers. Publishing in a Scopus-indexed journal not only enhances academic visibility but also ensures broader engagement with policymakers, scholars, and development partners across the continent.
